The days are getting shorter, the mercury barely rises above 0°C, and winter is just around the corner. Yet, it's also important to keep exercising during these darker months. Training intensity is often slightly lower than in spring/summer, but our bodies still need extra energy .

Read the tips below to avoid hunger pangs :

Fluid loss & thirst sensation

A combination of dry, cold air outside and sweating causes significant moisture loss . A significant amount of moisture is also lost through breathing. It's also harder to recognize thirst in colder temperatures than in warm weather. These two factors therefore increase the risk of dehydration.

That's why it's really important to make sure you drink enough, even in winter . For efforts lasting longer than 1 to 1.5 hours, an isotonic thirst quencher like Isomix is ​​definitely recommended.

Body temperature

The body wants to maintain a constant temperature of 37°C , so it will expend energy to reach that temperature. You can help your body by dressing warmly (put on an extra layer, preferably multiple layers, and protect your hands, feet, and head).

Energy and carbohydrates

Whether it is during winter or summer, your body needs energy when exercising .

For short, low-intensity workouts, you will get far with a daily balanced diet .

However, if you go out for endurance training longer than 1h30 or shorter intensive (interval) training (such as cyclists training on rollers), do not forget to take in the necessary carbohydrates during the effort.

Recovery

The recovery moment remains equally important.

Many people focus more on strength training during the winter months. In that case, a 100% whey protein shake is sufficient.
